Manchester United receive ‘miraculous’ Lisandro Martinez injury update as Premier League return date set

Manchester United have been handed a huge boost regarding Lisandro Martinez’s injury update, which has been described as ‘miraculous‘.

Since suffering a cruciate ligament injury against Crystal Palace last February, Manchester United have been without the services of Lisandro Martinez.

The Argentinian central defender has been unfortunate with injuries since arriving in Manchester in 2022, and has made only 31 Premier League appearances in the last two campaigns.

United’s defence suffered tremendously with defensive injuries last season, which caused Ruben Amorim to often turn to his academy at times for a solution.

Luckily for Amorim, it seems like he’ll be able to start next season with far better defensive depth, whilst Martinez’s return may not be too far away.

‘Miraculous’ Martinez boost

As reported by Laurie Whitwell on The Talk of the Devils podcast, Martinez could return to the pitch for United very early into the new season.

Typically, it takes between 10 and 11 months to recover from a cruciate ligament injury, which would put Martinez’s return date at around November.

However, the 27-year-old is ‘set for a miraculous recovery’ that will have him aiming to return to action after only three Premier League games.

His prospective return date would be just after the first international break, which would see his first potential squad appearance of the season be a fiery Manchester derby on September 14th.

Amorim’s defensive depth

One silver lining for Amorim after such a turbulent first campaign is that he was forced into trusting his young defensive starlets, that have now become regular features in the first team.

The likes of Ayden Heaven and Tyler Fredricson both starred for Amorim’s side throughout the back end of last season, with Heaven in particular now being a very highly regarded future talent.

As United’s Portuguese tactician likes to operate with three central defenders, having the services of Martinez back will be a huge boost as it allows for additional defensive depth.

It goes without saying that Martinez also brings heaps of additional quality and leadership to United’s backline, which will be of mass importance as they aim to climb back up the table.
