Manchester United receive Matheus Cunha transfer breakthrough amid fresh “full agreement” claim

Manchester United have been dealt a breakthrough in their pursuit of Matheus Cunha as Rúben Amorim closes in on his first major signing of the 2025 summer window.

Manchester United are reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha this summer, as they aim to strengthen Rúben Amorim’s attacking options.

This season, the team has struggled with consistent goal-scoring, relying heavily on captain Bruno Fernandes, especially after Amad missed the past two months due to injury.

Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund have combined for just 19 goals this campaign, with only five players reaching more than ten goal involvements. Marcus Rashford, who is set to be sold this summer, is one of them.

As a result, Amorim is targeting players who fit his 3-4-3 formation, with Cunha considered an ideal fit for the left attacking role.

United dealt Cunha breakthrough

With United firm on wanting to land Cunha as soon as possible, the club have been dealt a breakthrough with those involved in the deal now acting as if the transfer is a matter of when, not if.

This is according to TeamTalk, who claim that those close to the situation feel as if the move is practically a “done deal” this summer.

United are said to have no problem agreeing to the £62.5 million release clause. Although Wolves would rather see the fee paid for up front, they are open to negotiations about paying in instalments.

United are said to be very confident that a “full agreement” will be reached and signed off with the talks now very advanced and set to conclude as soon as possible.

How much will Cunha earn this summer?

United are aiming to sign up to seven new players this summer but are cautious about significantly increasing their wage bill.

With players like Christian Eriksen, Rashford, and Antony departing, the club will save millions on wages each week. New signings, including Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, have been offered lower contracts starting at £35,000 a week, with potential bonuses.

However, the situation is different for Cunha, who will join United as a seasoned Brazilian international and Premier League-tested player, leading to much higher wage demands.

According to The Telegraph, his transfer will see the 25-year-old earn over £200,000 a week, a significant jump from his current £90,000 a week contract. This would put him as United’s third-highest earner once Rashford and Sancho have been sold.
