Manchester United receive fresh update on contract talks with star player

Manchester United are confident of getting a deal over the line for one of the side’s most important players.

Last summer, Manchester United began the first stage of a significant squad rebuild, spending more than £200 million to revamp an attack that had struggled to score goals the season before.

The club brought in established Premier League talent such as Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, while also signing highly regarded striker Benjamin Šeško.

To help fund the overhaul, several notable players departed, including Antony, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

This summer, the focus is expected to move toward the midfield. Casemiro has already confirmed he will leave Old Trafford, while the futures of Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes remain uncertain heading into the new season.

With several departures expected this summer, Manchester United are confident that they will be able to keep one of their most valuable players since Michael Carrick entered the dugout.

Man Utd confident of extending Kobbie Mainoo’s deal

Having not started a single game under previous boss Rúben Amorim this season, understandably, there were reports that Kobbie Mainoo was extremely unhappy about his situation at the club.

After a loan move away last summer didn’t materialise, during the January transfer window, rumours of a move away for the 20-year-old picked up once again, with the midfielder in search of more frequent game time ahead of the World Cup in the summer.

As reported by Football Insider, after now starting every game under Carrick, Mainoo is believed to be happy at his boyhood club, and would be keen to extend his contract that expires in 2027.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, the outlet’s Transfer Correspondent said: “If Ruben Amorim remained in charge at Old Trafford, you can’t imagine there would have been progress in contract talks.

“That situation has totally changed now under Michael Carrick, he’s been a regular starter since he replaced Amorim at Old Trafford in January.

“He’s under contract until 2027, so I would imagine those talks will reopen soon, and they’re confident something will get sorted, and we’ll see Mainoo sign a new contract.

“He’s proved himself in the last few weeks under Carrick, and I’d imagine there’s a big likelihood of Mainoo signing a new contract sooner rather than later.

Mainoo deserves to be the midfield focal point

A whole host of new faces are expected to be coming through the door at Old Trafford this summer, with the midfield being the main target. Players such as Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães have all been linked with potential moves to Manchester in the summer.

Mainoo’s quality is there for all to see, with the Carrington graduate looking like the most exciting talent that has been produced for some time now, with the 20-year-old already on track to hit 100 first team games by the end of the season, with the midfielder having already played 94.

It is critical that the club iron out any lingering issues with a potential contract extension. The longer the club waits to get a deal over the line, the more they will have to fork out, with the player having more and more leverage.

After United’s game against Bournemouth on the 20th of March, they will have a three week wait before they host Leeds on the 13th of April, a perfect time to sit down with the academy graduate’s representatives to work out an agreement.
