Manchester United reach agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for Academy star

Manchester United look set to add to their extensive list of incomings this summer with a new addition to the youth set-up.

Manchester United is a club that takes pride in its fantastic youth set-up, producing some of the best players in modern football, as well as throughout history.

From the famous class of ’92 to the FA Youth Cup-winning team in 2022, which saw the rise of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, the Reds continue to provide a pathway for football’s next generation of stars.

With three first-team signings already through the door, the club aims to strengthen its academy in an attempt to replace players who have moved on to the senior squad, such as Chido Obi and Toby Collyer, and potentially even Diego Leon after impressing in pre-season.

United have been in the market for a promising talent this window, with rumours speculating around who that player could be, and it looks like the Reds have found their man.

Utd agree deal with Wolves for Lyne transfer

As per Academy Scoop on X, United have agreed a deal to sign Wolves’ academy starlet Ben Lyne, a player the club deems valuable to its youth set-up.

Lyne signs for the Red Decils after an impressive stint at West Country side Wolves, where he attracted the interest of top Premier League teams.

The forward signed for Wolves from the Cayman Islands football academy, Total Soccer Cayman, where he caught the attention of Wolves scouts in an English youth tournament.

The young attacker joins fellow United academy star, JJ Gabriel, as they both aim to impress the new Under-18s manager, Darren Fletcher, for the 2025/26 U18 Premier League campaign.

Lyne can play on the left wing or lead the line as a striker, and comes with a great deal of potential, but will face competition from forwards already at the club, including Gabriele Biancheri, Victor Musa and several under-16 talents waiting for their opportunity at a more senior level.

United’s academy looks stronger than ever

As Rúben Amorim and the first team enter the 2025/26 Premier League season with a huge amount of optimism, the club has an amazing array of young talent ready to push for first-team football.

The Reds’ signings in recent years emphasise this, as Obi, Leon, and Ayden Heaven are just a few of the players signed with the promise of adding value to the senior squad.

Youngster James Scanlon was pictured in first-team training after United’s last pre-season match, with Bendito Mantato also impressed while on tour in the USA.

United also completed a move for French forward Enzo Kana-Biyik, who has been sent on loan to Laussanne-Sport to develop. As well as Southampton signing, Harley Emsden-James.

Lyne follows suit, a young forward with huge potential. The club will be optimistic about the forward’s future and will look to nurture him through his time in Manchester.
