Manchester United have now reactivated talks to sign one of Rúben Amorim’s much-needed players following a shock loss against Grimsby.
Manchester United have just a few days left of the transfer window, with a lot expected to happen before the deadline on Monday evening.
United have so far loaned 11 first-team players and Academy stars, but have failed to sanction any form of permanent sales, which has hindered their necessary funding for further transfers.
So far this summer, United have brought in Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško for an outlay of just over £200 million. However, with a goalkeeper and a midfielder still needed, they need the cash.
Alejandro Garnacho is closing in on a move to Chelsea, while Rasmus Højlund is set to sign for Napoli, and Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho are also being linked with moves to European sides.
United back in for Lammens transfer
Following a shock loss against Grimsby Town on Wednesday evening, United have re-entered into talks for Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
This is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has stated that negotiations are still ongoing regarding a final fee following Galatasaray’s latest bid for the 23-year-old Belgian.
“After yesterday’s game, United are back in talks today with Royal Antwerp to try to reach an agreement on the transfer fee,” Romano said on his YouTube channel regarding a move for Lammens.
“This started at €17 million plus €3 million [in add-ons]. Then Royal Antwerp asked for €25 million. Man United are willing to offer more than €20 million, but including some add-ons, so there are some exchanges between the two parties trying to reach an agreement.
“But, Manchester United keep working on a deal to sign Senne Lammens. So this deal is complete. The agreement with the players is okay. Now they need to reach an agreement back to us. Work in progress. Negotiations ongoing.
“Today, they will restart. And so the Senelame story remains absolutely one to watch for Manchester United from now to the end of the summer transfer window.”
Amorim desperately needs a new goalkeeper
Onana’s display on Wednesday evening may have been his worst yet in a United shirt, with multiple costly errors unsettling the back line.

After Bayındır started the last two Premier League fixtures, the Cameroon international was handed a chance to reclaim his spot, but instead heightened the defence’s nerves.
Reports have suggested that if Lammens were to join United, it would likely be as a second-choice or rotation option. However, given the inconsistent performances of both Bayındır and Onana, he could find himself starting as early as October.
For Amorim to steady the ship if he keeps his place beyond the international break, he needs a commanding presence in goal. Lammens’ “brilliant” performances in Belgium last season could provide exactly that.
