Rúben Amorim may be lined up to make an unpopular decision as Manchester United host Burnley at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United resume their Premier League campaign on Saturday afternoon when Rúben Amorim’s side take on Scott Parker’s Burnley at Old Trafford.
It has been a stuttering start to the season, with United earning just a single point from their first two games after a defeat to Arsenal and a draw with Fulham, leaving them 16th in the standings.
Things went from bad to worse in midweek, as United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town. Despite coming from 2-0 down, they were beaten 12-11 in a marathon penalty shootout.
Amorim will now look to home advantage against Burnley as the chance for his team to finally record their first win of the season.
Amorim to make plenty of changes vs Burnley
After André Onana put in a performance to forget against Grimsby, it’s expected that Amorim will recall Altay Bayındır to the starting XI, with the Turk having started the club’s last two Premier League sides.
As for his defensive line, after Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro were rested in midweek, it’s expected that the duo will return to the starting XI on the left and right of Amorim’s back three, respectively.
After Harry Maguire’s 90-minute fixture against Grimsby, Matthijs de Ligt could return, too, in between Shaw and Yoro.
As for the midfield, after Kobbie Mainoo formally requested to leave the club on loan before the deadline, Amorim may choose to leave him out while his future is sorted, which may not go down well with fans. Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes could then be chosen to return.
After Amad failed to impress against Grimsby, Amorim could choose to start Diogo Dalot at right wing-back, while Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu is expected to continue his role on the left.
As for the front line, Bryan Mbeumo could be reinstated on the right after scoring his first goal for the club on Wednesday evening. Having played every tie so far, Matheus Cunha may well continue on the left.

The last remaining position up for debate is the striker. Benjamin Šeško started his first tie for the Reds against Grimsby, playing the full 90 minutes, and could start his first Premier League game.
Joshua Zirkzee returned to action on Wednesday for the first time this season, having missed all of pre-season through injury, but may not be fit enough to start, while Rasmus Højlund remains out of the squad as he completes a proposed move to Napoli.
United predicted XI vs Burnley
Bayındır, Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw, Dalot, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu, Mbeumo, Šeško, Cunha.
