Manchester United predicted XI for Carabao Cup final as Erik ten Hag expected to make 3 changes
Erik ten Hag could make three changes to his Manchester United line-up that won against Barcelona as The Reds face Newcastle United at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final.
Victory against the Spanish side on Thursday was one of the highlights of the season so far but another win on Sunday would be the best moment under Ten Hag’s management.
United have the chance to win silverware for the first time in six years and will be prepared for a difficult encounter against The Magpies.
After starting the game against Barca, Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be replaced by Diogo Dalot this time around, with the Portuguese full-back more suited to facing an ‘annoying’ Newcastle side.
The rest of the back five is expected to remain the same; with David de Gea, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw being mainstays in the starting XI.
In midfield, Ten Hag could make the decision to swap Fred with Marcel Sabitzer for a similar reason. The Brazilian was excellent against Barcelona in a game of franticness, but the Austrian could be the better fit as United will look to dominate the ball against Eddie Howe’s side.
Of course, whichever midfielder that makes the cut will be positioned alongside Casemiro. The defensive midfielder will be key for United if they are to win this final.
Bruno Fernandes will likely revert back to his natural position behind the striker with Antony coming into the side for Jadon Sancho. The winger scored the winner on Thursday and he has proven his importance on the right consistency when playing.
Marcus Rashford seemed to be carrying a slight injury on Thursday night but has travelled with the team to Wembley and will almost certainly start. He’s been the star man this season, scoring 24 goals so far.
He will play from the left wing as Wout Weghorst starts up front again. The Netherlands international has only scored once for The Reds since his loan move last month but has been described as an important player by his manager.
This game will certainly suit the forward more so than the doubleheader against the La Liga leaders. But it’s also expected that substitutes could make the difference on the day.
Sancho, Fred and Alejandro Garnacho could all be key weapons for Ten Hag in this game. United subs have scored 19 goals so far this season, the most of any team in Europe’s top five leagues. It would not be surprising to see Ten Hag’s changes help United win this game.
Full Manchester United predicted XI:
De Gea, Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Shaw, Casemiro, Sabitzer, Antony, B.Fernandes, Rashford, Weghorst.
