Manchester United’s veteran custodian Tom Heaton has stated that he would love to learn something from Andre Onana, the new signing.

André Onana has created quite a stir since his arrival at Manchester United. The custodian has shown glimpses of what he can do with his feet and why exactly Erik ten Hag preferred him over David De Gea.

Tom Heaton captained the Red Devils for their final pre-season game of the summer, against Athletic Bilbao. A late goal from Facundo Pellistri saved the English club from losing yet another match in the pre-season.

After the fixture, the goalkeeper stated that he is “willing to learn” from Onana. The 37-year-old has played for numerous clubs during his football career. The veteran re-joined Manchester United in 2021 and has played a couple of matches for the club.

Speaking to the club media after the match, Heaton heaped praise on United’s new No. 1 of the season. He further said that, despite getting older, he still has the zeal to learn and develop.

“Hopefully I can learn a bit from him. I know I’m getting older, but I’m always trying to develop and evolve. Hopefully, I can offer him something about Premier League football and the requirements of the different challenges.

The veteran continued by saying that he enjoys Onana’s style of play.

“He’s been great. He’s a really good lad and a great character. I really enjoy the style of his play, and I think he’ll suit how the manager wants to play.”

Tom Heaton is expected to play second fiddle to Onana this season, with Dean Henderson‘s future at Manchester United hanging in the balance.
