Manchester United player ratings as Reds win 4-1 vs Real Betis at Old Trafford in Europa League clash
Manchester United are in the driving seat going into their second-leg clash against Real Betis after winning 4-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday in the first leg.
The response from the Liverpool defeat on the weekend makes it 20 games unbeaten at Old Trafford for the Reds.
Goals from Marcus Rashford, Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst give Erik ten Hag’s men confidence.
Here are the player ratings for the encounter.
David de Gea – 4/10
Couldn’t find his own players with his passing and put his team in danger several times. His inability in possession is sometimes made up for with solid saves. Not tonight.
Diogo Dalot – 5/10
Still a shadow of his pre-World Cup self. He put his goalkeeper under pressure in the first half and was replaced at the interval.
Raphael Varane – 7.5/10
Solid. Cut out several chances on the break and helped United play out of the press when Betis pushed forward.
Lisandro Martinez – 8/10
Back to his usual best. His calmness in possession is such a great trait and he used it on several occasions this evening.
Luke Shaw – 7/10
Should’ve closed down quicker for Betis’ goal but an overall impressive performance otherwise. Brilliant corner to assist Fernandes’ goal.
Casemiro – 6.5/10
Some sloppy moments in the first half and didn’t quite look at his best. Improved in the second half.
Fred – 6.5/10
Some good offensive moments as he often swapped with Bruno throughout.
Antony – 7/10
Looked more promising than he has recently in the first half and was dangerous in the second. Brilliant curling shot to restore United’s lead but could’ve added a fourth if he squared another chance in the second half.
B.Fernandes – 8/10
A brilliant response to the widespread criticism he received for the performance at the weekend. An assist for the opener and a great run and header to get a goal of his own.
Marcus Rashford – 7/10
Scored a phenomenal goal with a clinical finish. Some more dangerous moments before coming off to be saved for the weekend.
Wout Weghorst – 7/10
Finally got his second goal after a long wait. Hard not to feel happy for him. Some good moments otherwise.
Substitutes
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7/10
A solid impact.
Jadon Sancho – 6/10
Some nice moments didn’t always come off.
Tyrell Malacia – 6/10
Solid on the left.
Facundo Pellistri – 8/10
Brilliant cameo and created the fourth goal.
Scott McTominay – 6/10
Not much to deal with. Close to scoring before Weghorst poked home.
