Manchester United player ratings as Reds collapse vs Sevilla in 2-2 draw in Europa League

After a stunning first-half performance, Manchester United collapsed against Sevilla as both Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane suffered injury blows.

The Reds blew a two-goal lead, courtesy of a first-half Marcel Sabitzer brace, in the latter stages of the game. Two own goals stung Erik ten Hag’s side, who face the Spanish side in the second leg of the quarter-final clash next week.

The United player ratings in the tie can be read below:

David de Gea – 6.5/10

A brilliant save on the turn of the half and mostly good distribution. Debatable whether he could’ve dealt with the first goal.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.5/10

Decent again on the right side of the defence.

Raphael Varane – 7.5/10

A solid performance until he was replaced at half-time after a knock. Hopefully a precaution ahead of the weekend. Crucial goal line header too.

Lisandro Martinez – 7.5/10

Another controlled showing from the Argentine until he was forced off the pitch. Every single United fan will be hoping it’s not as serious as it looks.

Tyrell Malacia – 4.5/10

Some difficult moments for the left-back defensively. Completely switched off for Sevilla’s goal.

Casemiro – 6.5/10

Some brilliant moments and got stuck in as expected. Also a few mistakes in his first game back after suspension.

Bruno Fernandes – 7.5/10

Another solid performance from that deeper position. Wonderful assist for Sabitzer’s second. Somehow received a yellow card for the ball being booted at his arm from a yard away which means he’s unavailable for the second leg.

Antony – 7/10

Looked lively again and was inches away from scoring from his signature finish midway through the second half.

Marcel Sabitzer – 8/10

An impressive performance as that second striker, scoring twice after good movements to run into space. Linked up well and was always on the move.

Jadon Sancho – 5/10

A disappointing performance from the English winger overall. Some good moments but too often he was off with his touches or passes.

Anthony Martial – 8.5/10

A stunning return to the lineup, grabbing an assist and producing a classy performance, particularly in the first half. United look so much smoother in the final third with the Frenchman involved.

Substitutes

Harry Maguire – 7/10

A solid cameo from the bench again for the defender. He was massively unfortunate to come away with an own goal that he couldn’t do anything about.

Christian Eriksen – 5/10

Slightly sloppy in his second cameo since returning from injury.

Anthony Elanga – 5/10

Not enough threat.

Wout Weghorst – 5/10

The wrong choice to pass to Malacia during one attack.
