Manchester United deliver perfect transfer update, INEOS making a smart move
Manchester United have been targeting defensive reinforcements this summer, with Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro linked to the club.
After Raphaël Varane’s departure last month, United made defensive signings one of their main priorities this summer alongside a centre-forward.
The club have confirmed the signing of Joshua Zirkzee and now it appears that they will be moving forward with the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.
United have had a bid accepted by Lille for Yoro, but an agreement with the player is the sticking point. Meanwhile, personal terms are not an issue for De Ligt, but they are finalising deals with Bayern Munich over a transfer fee.
It also remains to be seen whether they make another move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
According to a new report from the Telegraph, the Reds are still trying to convince Yoro to move to Old Trafford rather than wait for Real Madrid.
It was explained that while the 18-year-old’s preference is believed to be the La Liga champions, United are not giving up hope of landing the exciting signing and appear to be prioritising the deal at the moment.
However, importantly, the report added that if the deal does not happen, United are in a good position to accelerate a deal for De Ligt quickly.
This is something that shows the difference between the club’s chase for Yoro and their previous situation with Frenkie de Jong.
While the club are being ambitious with their approach for Yoro, they are also being realistic and have another plan lined up in case of failure.
INEOS have quickly put together a team of experts at Old Trafford, with Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox leading the sporting side of things.
While it is not revolutionary by any means, seeing United working on various different deals in the transfer market is not only refreshing for fans, but it will also benefit the team.
In another world, Ed Woodward would be scrambling around for a defender in late August after Yoro decided to move to Madrid. It doesn’t seem like this United will have that problem.
