Manchester United have a 15-day window to secure one of their summer targets after a bizarre detail about his release clause was revealed.
Manchester United are preparing for a major overhaul of their attack this summer following a disappointing 2024/25 season, which ended with a 15th-place finish in the Premier League and a clear lack of goals throughout the campaign.
Bruno Fernandes was the club’s leading scorer with 19 goals, while Alejandro Garnacho and Amad each netted 11. Rasmus Højlund added 10, but no other player managed to reach double figures in any competition.
United have already sealed the £62.5 million signing of Matheus Cunha and are making progress in their pursuit of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
Reports suggest Brentford are satisfied with a base fee of £55 million, with ongoing discussions over the structure of add-ons. The Cameroon international is expected to undergo a medical later this week.
The search for a new central striker also continues. Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres had been a top target, but with the Swedish forward now said to prefer a move to Arsenal, United have turned their attention to other options, including Hugo Ekitike and Ollie Watkins.
United have 15 days to sign Kean from Fiorentina
With United wanting to sign players who have played in the Premier League before, another name closely linked with the club is Fiorentina’s Moise Kean. Kean used to play for Everton and scored 25 goals in 44 appearances last term.
In the last week, reports have suggested that United have intensified their interest in Kean, with their attention now turning toward who to sign up front once the deal for Mbeumo is completed.
Although Kean’s Fiorentina contract has a release clause of around £42.8 million, it has been confirmed that this is only active between 1 and 15 July this summer.
Therefore, if United are to take a step forward and attempt to sign Kean, they must officially submit their £42.8 million offer for the player within the next 15 days.
United cannot rush into a new signing this summer
Although Kean is undoubtedly an improving player, and at 25, he has yet to reach the prime of his career, United must avoid being pressured into such an expensive transfer by a ticking deadline.
There are better striker options for Amorim, meaning United is likely to pass on the possibility of signing Kean.
United have registered their interest in Watkins this summer. The 29-year-old boasts a wealth of Premier League experience and would be a safer option to sign than Kean, as he would be immediately more comfortable playing for United.

The club are also continuing to monitor the situation of Gyökeres despite the player’s preference for Arsenal. The North London club are thought to be closing in on a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško, and should this deal go through, Mikel Arteta’s side would likely pass on signing the Swede.
Amorim is reported to be keen to reunite with his former Sporting striker, but the player himself is hesitant about a move to Old Trafford due to their lack of European football.
However, United may move to secure the striker if his desired move to Arsenal breaks down, although his price tag of over £60 million is a hefty one for the club to finance, considering their current monetary volatility.
