Manchester United now in ‘pole position’ to sign Cameroonian wonderkid as Bruno Fernandes considers Saudi move

Manchester United are moving forward with their efforts to sign a young striker while Bruno Fernandes looks like he could be heading for the exit door.

After a terrible 2024/25 campaign, Manchester United are in desperate need of a strong summer transfer window to bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad.

The Reds need to bring in some experienced players, with Matheus Cunha expected to be the first through the door, but player exits will be just as important.

United are willing to listen to offers for most players in the squad and Alejandro Garnacho has already been told to find a new club this summer.

However, while it is obvious that the club want to keep Bruno Fernandes, there is serious interest in the captain from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

Fernandes seriously considering Saudi move

Fernandes has received an incredible offer from the Saudi club which reportedly would see his wages rise to over £700,000-per-week.

It was revealed on Thursday that the player’s agent, Miguel Pinho, was in Riyadh to meet with Al-Hilal’s president Fahad bin Nafel.

Now, various reports, including the Manchester Evening News, have claimed that those conversations were positive and that the player is now seriously considering a move to the Middle East.

It has been said that Al-Hilal would be willing to offer £80 million to United for the player, who they want signed in time for the Club World Cup next month. You would imagine the Reds want at least £100 million if they were to part ways with their best player.

Should the Portuguese star actually leave United, the club would be left with a huge mission to replace him with proven quality. While you cannot replicate the exact skills of Fernandes, especially with just one player, the cash would be able to bolster several positions in the squad if used correctly.

United in ‘pole position’ for Cameroonian wonderkid

While there are experienced players needed at Old Trafford, it is also clear that they are planning to bring in more young talent as they have done since they arrived.

The likes of Sekou Kone, Chido Obi, Ayden Heaven and Diego Leon have all been low-risk, high-potential signings in the last year. All of those youngsters have the chance of being key players for United in the future.

According to new reports from Mundo Deportivo, as per Sport Witness, that trend appears to be continuing as the Reds are in ‘pole position’ to sign Albacete Balompié’s striker Christian Kofane.

Kofane, 18, has been playing regularly for the Segunda División side and his solid performances have attracted the attention of United, as well as Erik ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen.

The Cameroonian wonderkid has a release clause of just £4.2 million and he could join the previously-mentioned starlets at Old Trafford.

Should the Reds end up securing Kofane this summer, it was added that Albacete Balompié would hope negotiate a loan deal for the youngster next season.

Given that United are already planning to sign a senior striker and also have the likes of Rasmus Højlund, Joshua Zirkzee and Obi in their ranks, a loan move back to Spain would make complete sense.
