Manchester United “not interested” in £30m signing despite significant price slash
According to reports, Manchester United are “not interested” in a deal for Brentford’s Ivan Toney this summer despite a significant reduction in his price tag.
Following Manchester United‘s £36 million acquisition of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee this summer, many thought that he and Rasmus Højlund would be the striker opinions for Erik ten Hag heading into the 2024/25 campaign.
However, subsequent reports came out that the club would ideally want a third striker to further complement the squad, with Brentford and England front man Ivan Toney having been proposed as an option.

With Zirkzee, 23, and Højlund, 21, both young and still developing, it has been said that Toney would bring much-needed experience to United’s front line. Marcus Rashford is currently United’s oldest attacker, at 26.
Original reports suggested that Brentford had set a price of between £50-60 million for the 28-year-old striker, despite the fact that he only had one year left on his current deal and was not going to extend with the London-based club.
However, a fresh report from The Sun claims that Brentford is set to slash their asking price in half after failing to garner the interest they originally expected for the player this summer.
The report states that they are willing to reduce their asking price by as much as £30 million, which would leave Toney available for around £30 million, although the report itself claims their original price point was around £80 million.
However, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea have all “made it clear” that they have no intention of bidding for the player this summer, even following this news.
This then leaves West Ham and Tottenham as the clubs most likely to engage in a deal for Toney. United have just spent around £52 million to sign Leny Yoro from Lille this summer following Zirkzee’s announcement.
Yoro underwent and passed his medical on Wednesday before final checks were made on Thursday morning. He has signed his new deal and will be announced as the club’s latest player in due course.
