Manchester United name 25-man Europa League squad with three surprise inclusions
Manchester United have named a 25-man A List squad for their Europa League campaign this season, with three surprise inclusions.
The Reds have had a difficult start to the new Premier League season and will need to turn things around after the international break.
Erik ten Hag’s side will also be aiming to succeed in their Europa League campaign, with the new format of the competition explained here.
United will face the likes of Rangers, Porto and Fenerbahce in the group stages of the Europa League.
Ahead of the competition, the Reds have sent in their 25-man A List squad to UEFA, which includes a couple of surprise players.
Tyrell Malacia and Harry Amass were both included in the list, alongside Luke Shaw. This suggests that Malacia’s return to the pitch is closing in.
Meanwhile, Amass will be hoping for opportunities to impress Ten Hag after shining during the pre-season tour.
Thirdly, the club have decided to include four goalkeepers in the list, with 21-year-old Dermott Mee alongside the more recognised Altay Bayındır, Tom Heaton and André Onana.
The rest of the squad is more recognisable, with names such as Marcus Rashford, Amad, Bruno Fernandes, and new signing Manuel Ugarte among those included.
It is important to note that players such as Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo do not need to be included in the squad, as they will be part of the B List.
A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 2003 and has been eligible to play for the club for two years, with both of United’s young starlets fitting that category.
The full 25-man A-List squad can be read below.
GK: Bayındır, Heaton, Onana, Mee
DEF: Lindelöf, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez, Malacia, Yoro, Dalot, Shaw, Evans, Amass,
MF: Mount, Fernandes, Eriksen, Casemiro, Ugarte,
FWD: Højlund, Rashford, Zirkzee, Amad, Antony
