Manchester United must avoid signing £200,000-a-week star despite him ‘prioritising’ Premier League transfer

There is one potential striker target who Manchester United should be looking to avoid in the summer transfer window despite their desperate need for a goalscorer.

Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to strengthen their attack this summer after a disappointing 2024/25 season in which they finished 15th in the Premier League and lost in the Europa League final.

The team struggled for goals, with Bruno Fernandes topping the scoring charts with just 19 goals. Amad and Alejandro Garnacho each contributed 11, but no player managed to surpass the 20-goal mark.

In an attempt to address their attacking woes, United have turned to the transfer market. Matheus Cunha has completed a £62.5 million move to Old Trafford, while Bryan Mbeumo is also nearing a deal to join the club.

In terms of number nines, Liam Delap was the first-choice but he opted for a move to Chelsea and Viktor Gyokeres now seems unlikely to join as well. The Reds are monitoring other options.

Vlahovic set to be offered to United

According to a fresh report from GiveMeSport, Dusan Vlahovic is set to leave Juventus this summer and his representatives are going to try and offer him to United.

They know that Amorim’s side are looking for a top-level striker and Vlahovic has netted 33 goals across the last two seasons in Italy.

However, the report added that the Serbian forward will demand a £200,000-per-week contract. He still wants a ‘significant payday’ even though he’s willing to lower his £300,000-per-week wages which he earns at Juventus.

United have been linked with a move for Vlahovic in the past and it has also been rumoured that he will ‘prioritise’ a move to the Premier League this summer.

United should avoid Vlahovic

Despite losing out on Delap and looking likely to fail in their bid to sign Gyokeres, United do not necessarily need to panic.

The striker position is an area which needs strengthening but signing someone like Vlahovic on high wages is not the answer to the problem. United should avoid that deal.

While he is a decent goalscorer, there are definitely better options United can acquire and they would most likely cost less in terms of transfer fee and wages.

With Cunha through the door and Mbeumo likely to join him, Amorim will have two extra goalscorers in his team and that will allow the club to think carefully about the striker they want to sign, and ensure they do not pick the wrong player.
