Manchester United have reportedly changed their minds on André Onana amid their agreement to sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
André Onana’s time at Manchester United has not been a smooth one since his £47 million move from Inter Milan in 2023.
Onana was brought in by Erik ten Hag to replace David de Gea, with a new style of possession-based football to be played at Old Trafford, but very quickly, the Cameroon international made a series of mistakes in the Champions League.
Although his domestic form remained positive that season, once Ten Hag was sacked midway through the 2024/25 campaign and replaced by Rúben Amorim, Onana’s form started to dip significantly.
So far this season, Onana has been replaced by Altay Bayındır in the Premier League, with his only appearance coming in the shocking Carabao Cup loss against Grimsby Town.
United are changing their minds on Onana
The previous rhetoric has been that there are no plans to push Onana out the door in the final few days of the window.
This was the club line during reports that they were considering signing Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. However, with an agreement to sign Lammens having been reached for around £18 million plus add-ons, United’s stance has now changed.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Onana’s future at United is now in serious doubt, even if he stays beyond Monday’s English transfer deadline.
The report states that United reassured the 29-year-old that a new goalkeeper wasn’t a priority this summer, but following mistakes from Onana and Bayındır across all four games so far this season, the tide has shifted.
Where could Onana go after deadline day?
Onana was recently offered to Aston Villa in an exchange deal that could see Martínez head the other way, but instead, Jadon Sancho has joined the Villa Park side on loan for the remainder of the season.

Similarly, West Ham were also offered the chance to sign the Cameroon goalkeeper amid their goalkeeper struggles, but this was rebuffed.
Although England’s transfer deadline closes on Monday, 1 September, the windows of both the Saudi Pro League and Turkey remain open for the opening two weeks of September.
Galatasaray are known to want a new goalkeeper this summer, having made a bid for Lammens, and there is certainly a possibility that they could come in with a loan or permanent offer for Onana.
