Manchester United have reportedly decided what type of player they would like to sign next, following the transfers of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Manchester United have started the 2025 summer transfer window in full force as they look to overhaul Rúben Amorim’s derilict squad at Old Trafford.
The club ahve already confirmed a £62.5 million deal that will see Matheus Cunha complete a move to Old Trafford from Wolverhampton Wanderers once he returns from international duty with Brazil, while a transfer for Bryan Mbeumo is thought to be close.
After seeing Brentford reject an initial £45 million plus £10 million in bonuses offer, some reports have claimed that United have now put in a second bid worth in excess of £60 million in an attempt to finalise a move for the Cameroon international, although this has been disputed.
However, once both players are through the door, United will not stop, and are set to focus on selling players before signing at least three more for Amorim this window.
United make decision about third summer signing
As for the remaining positions United want to sign, it has been well documented that Amorim is keen on securing a new striker, midfelder, and possibly a further centre-back and goalkeeper if funds allow and spaces in the squad open up.
What is very importnt for the club is the order in whicih these players are signed. United are not the only club in need of a new striker, with those such as Arsenal, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Napoli all wanting attacking reinforcements.
With this in mind, Sky Sports have reported that United have taken the decision to pursue a new striker as their third summer signing once the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have been completed.
further, it is stated that although Sporting CP striker is on their list wit Amorim a “big admirer” of the Swede, he is one of a number of forwards United are looking at.
No formal contact has taken place with Sporting surrounding the 26-year-old goal machine, with some reports from Portugal suggesting the player would rather sign for a side in the Champions League.
Who United can buy depends on who they can sell
Sky Sports‘ report details that the club are expected to offload Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony among others this summer, but who they will be able to sign up front depends on how quickly these players leave.
Should the club head for Gyökeres, he would likely cost just sky of £60 million, meaning United wouold need to offload some major players to secure the deal.
Rashford is reportedly dreaming of a move to Barcelona, but the Catalan club are pushing for this to be a loan move, while United want around £40 million for the winger.
Garnacho is another player who could fetch a significant fee, with United wanting to secure around £60 million for the winger.
However, if United want to make sure they are not left scrambling to sign a striker late in the window, they must make sure they are pushing for these transfers to be finalised sooner rather than later.
