Manchester United loanee Ethan Ennis made his second appearance for Doncaster Rovers on the weekend and impressed his manager.

Ennis, 20, moved to Doncaster Rovers earlier this month for his first ever loan deal and experience of first-team football.

The United forward had a great experience on his debut, coming off the bench for the League Two side in their dramatic FA Cup victory over Championship side Hull City.

While he did not get a chance to show his talents in the final third, Ennis worked hard defensively to help his new team get the game to penalties.

This weekend was Ennis’ first taste of Football League action as Rovers secured an important 1-0 win over Gillingham.

Ennis praised for excellent display in Doncaster win

In that game, Ennis came off the bench in the 75th minute and was able to showcase more of his ability.

Despite limited touches on the ball, Ennis completed one take-on and cross – which manager Grant McCann believes should have been dispatched.

McCann was impressed by the 20-year-old’s “excellent” display and believed that he, alongside the other substitutes, were crucial in securing victory.

“Ethan [Ennis] was excellent when he came on. You could see the directness and what he’s about,” the Doncaster boss told club media. “He played a great ball which we probably should have put in.

“From a team structure point of view and from the subs that came on, it’s a real team effort to get the three points.”

Amorim will keep close eye on Ennis

It has been a good start to life at the Eco-Power Stadium for Ennis and Ruben Amorim will certainly be keeping an eye on his development.

The United boss is well known for integrating youth and while he has been extremely focused on improving the first-team squad at Old Trafford, it is expected that he utilises the Academy more once there is solid foundations in place.

Ennis, who can play all across the frontline, could end up being a useful player for Amorim’s system if he continues to impress while on loan.

Next up for the youngster is his first home game against Harrogate Town, with an FA Cup clash against Premier League side Crystal Palace approaching next month.
