Manchester United loan star suffers 6th-minute horror on his debut, it is incredibly unlucky

One of Manchester United’s young loan stars has endured a horror start to his life at his new side, with an incredibly unlucky incident only a matter of minutes in.

Manchester United’s summer transfer window consisted of replacing their attacking department, as well as adding further depth between the sticks.

Ruben Amorim’s reds introduced Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko to their attack before finally adding Senne Lammens to their goalkeeping depth.

Despite not making any additions to their defence, United still have a fairly strong amount of depth, especially at left wing-back, where Luke Shaw and Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu reside.

Due to this, United loaned out their young full-back, Harry Amass, to Sheffield Wednesday, but the youngsters debut has not gone as he would have planned.

Amass’ nightmare start

The 18-year-old full-back featured on several occasions for Amorim last season, mainly due to the injury crisis that United endured, but has been sent on loan for the 2025/26 campaign.

Amass’ new side, Sheffield Wednesday, have endured a horrific start to the season, with only one point from their first five games as they fell to a 3-0 loss against Bristol City at their own ground on Saturday afternoon.

This game at home to Bristol City was Amass’ first start for The Owls, but unfortunately for the United man, he has had a first half to forget.

After only six minutes, Amass was incredibly unlucky as a wayward shot deflected off his chest into the far corner of the Sheffield Wednesday net, which put the visitors 1-0 up. He went on to have a mixed display, putting in 68 minutes before being replaced by Reece Johnson in the second half.

A challenging season ahead for Amass

Although it is very early days in Amass’ time at Sheffield Wednesday, it is already apparent that his new side will have quite the task ahead of them if they are to turn their season around.

Both the Sheffield sides currently occupy the bottom two spots in the EFL Championship, picking up one point between the two teams.

Hopefully, this season on loan provides United’s talented teenager with all the experience that he needs to grow into a top-quality full-back for when he returns to the club.

If things are to carry on as they are at The Owls, Amass will have to display a lot of courage and resilience not to let his side’s form affect his development. It’ll be interesting to see if his side can turn things around in the near future.
