Manchester United linked with ‘powerful’ Bundesliga midfielder as Casemiro’s departure looms closer

United enter talks with a potential candidate to fill Casemiro’s boots as he’s set to leave Old Trafford in the Summer.

Manchester United midfield icon Casemiro is playing in his final games for the club. The Brazilian international has made 149 appearances in red and white across his four years spent with the club.

Casemiro is a vital player within the matchday rotation, and therefore, it’s no surprise that the club is already eyeing potential replacements for the 33-year-old.

United’s summer transfer window is already looking busy with both signings on and off the pitch to be made. With Interim head coach Michael Carrick’s position in the dugout up in the air and INEOS planning a midfield rebuild, United have a busy summer ahead of them.

There’s an extensive list of names of those who are next to take the plunge as Manchester United’s boss, and an even longer list of midfielders who are linked with a move to United.

Premier League stars like Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Elliott Anderson are just three of the names rumoured to be on United’s radar; however, the Red Devils are said to have taken a renewed interest in a former Manchester City midfielder.

Manchester to maturity

German International Felix Nmecha has caught the eyes of multiple English sides. Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea are all said to be interested in helping the midfielder return to the Premier League.

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund refused the sale of the midfielder during the January transfer window and are reported to make demands of at least £52m if he’s to go elsewhere in the summer.

While Nmecha was unable to make his mark at the Etihad Stadium, he’s shone back in his home country. Nmecha was just 20 when he joined Manchester City, and after just three games for the first team, he returned to Germany.

The 25-year-old was a standout player during his time at Wolfsburg, and now Dortmund and Manchester United are keen to replicate this, now that he has gained more experience.

According to Fusball Daten, United has identified Nmecha as ‘a powerful midfielder to replace’ Casemiro, as well as viewing him as ‘a strategic reinforcement in the centre’. perfect for United’s trophy winning squad they’re trying to create.

How does Nmecha fit the Casemiro mould?

Although United have expressed their interest in the midfielder, Tottenham and Chelsea are also reported to be incredibly keen.

It has been shared that, ‘While no official offers have yet been made, his representatives are expected to begin talks in England shortly.

‘A transfer could increase his annual salary from around €5million to nearly €9million.’

Chelsea is said to be keeping an incredibly close eye on Nmecha, having viewed his last five matches. The Blues do not require another central midfielder, so the ball remains very much in Tottenham or Manchester United’s half.

Many view Nmecha as an almost perfect replacement for Casemiro. His physical presence in the midfield does not go unnoticed by the opposition. Similar to United’s current number 18, Nmecha combines both aggression and composure, allowing him to dominate the middle of the pitch, alike to prime Casemiro.

Nmecha has also been praised for his defensive reliability, with an innate ability to win headers and move the ball forward, once again another thing that drew United to Casemiro when signing him from Real Madrid.
