Manchester United left frustrated by Premier League fixture scheduling after latest changes

Manchester United are left frustrated as they are handed their next set of Premier League fixtures.

Manchester United are left angry after being handed their next round of Premier League fixtures, with an overwhelming amount of 8 pm kick-offs alongside huge gaps between games.

Reports have indicated that United have filed a complaint with both the Premier League and Sky Sports regarding the latest fixture announcement. Unlike the other teams at the top of the table, the Reds have no other European competitions to focus on, leaving gaps in their play and making Michael Carrick’s side relatively frustrated.

United have been given three 8 pm fixtures in April, facing both Leeds and Brentford on a Monday evening and Chelsea at the same time but on a Saturday. This has taken the club’s total of 8 pm kick-offs to 14/34.

The late start isn’t easy for fans to navigate, especially when travelling across the country, which many Reds will be doing for the upcoming clash at Stamford Bridge. The club don’t only have issues with kick-off times but has shared the anger over several other issues.

Concerns rise with broadcasters

The Sun has shared that United are also not best pleased over decisions made by both the league and broadcasters. Although it has been recognised that United are very much an “attractive option” for TV, issues have still arisen between United, Sky Sports and the Premier League.

The reason for this scheduling is due to United’s lack of involvement in other competitions this campaign. Their Carabao Cup hopes were quickly shut down at the beginning of the season, after a shocking loss to Grimsby Town in August.

The FA Cup was their final chance to have some outside involvement, but they didn’t progress past the third round after being knocked out by Brighton in January after a 2-1 home defeat.

With no involvement in any domestic competitions paired with their lack of European football, this campaign leaves them an easy target for the Premier League to move around their fixtures.

Big gaps between games cause concerns for United

After United finished 15th in the Premier League last season and lost to Tottenham in the Europa League final, they were already left short of games to play this season. This is completely out of character for the Redsz, especially when you consider that nine Premier League sides are competing in the Champions League this season.

Carrick has a massive break between fixtures coming up, with the international break and the FA Cup causing nearly a whole month’s gap between United’s trip to Bournemouth on March 20th and their following league game against Leeds on the 13th of April.

After Wednesday night’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United, the Reds have to wait 11 days until they host Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

While the gap in fixtures can be frustrating, United can’t complain too much, with many arguing their lack of involvement in other competitions has massively impacted their progression in the Premier League, now sitting third in the standings and in a safe spot for the Champions League next season.
