Manchester United ‘keeping tabs’ on Everton star who embarrassed Ruben Amorim’s side at Old Trafford

Manchester United are reportedly looking at one of the Everton stars who embarrassed Ruben Amorim’s side at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Manchester United suffered their first Premier League loss in six games as Everton battled to a resilient 1–0 victory at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Although United dominated early possession, Everton looked sharper, but the visitors were down to ten men within 15 minutes after Idrissa Gana Gueye accidentally clashed with teammate Michael Keane.

Even with the extra man, Rúben Amorim’s side struggled to create much, and a brilliant strike from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall put David Moyes’ team ahead. United tried to raise the tempo after conceding, but the score remained in Everton’s favour at the break.

Mason Mount came on early in the second half, with Kobbie Mainoo and Diogo Dalot following, yet Everton stayed compact and disciplined. With twenty minutes to go, Bryan Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, and the rest of United’s attacking unit increased the pressure, and Joshua Zirkzee forced a strong save from Jordan Pickford.

In the closing stages, Everton managed the game expertly, holding firm to claim a hard-earned and fully deserved three points.

United ‘keeping tabs’ on Garner after Everton win

One of the standout players on the night at Old Trafford was former United academy star James Garner, who was excellent in the Everton midfield.

Garner was once one of the most exciting talents coming through at Carrington but the decision was made to sell him to the Toffees in the summer of 2022.

He has since become a reliable Premier League midfielder and the latest reports suggest United are considering an attempt to bring him back.

According to talkSPORT, the Reds are keeping tabs on Garner’s situation at Goodison Park as he approaches the final months of his contract.

Amorim needs to be braver

Everton had two United academy graduates starting the game at Old Trafford while Amorim named none in his team. They were two of the best players on the pitch.

Shea Lacey finally got an opportunity in the squad for the first time but Diogo Dalot came on ahead of him when United were trying to break down 10 men. The United boss needs to be braver and the use of academy talent needs to be better.

Bringing Garner back to the club would not be a bad piece of business, and many would argue that the young midfielder should have never been sold in the first place.
