Manchester United have made their decision on centre-back Jonny Evans following discussions over a new contract.

According to Football Insider, Jonny Evans has agreed to a new one-year contract at Old Trafford.

The report claimed that an announcement on the 36-year-old’s future is imminent, with the United defender’s current deal set to expire at the end of this month.

Earlier this month, The Reds confirmed that discussions were ongoing with Evans over a new contract at the club after he returned last summer on a one-year deal.

Talks between United and the veteran defender have been positive, and all signs now point to a renewal, Football Insider added.

Evans has recently expressed his support for Erik ten Hag in the media despite the prior uncertainty surrounding the Dutch manager.

Now that it has been confirmed that the 54-year-old will remain at the club, it appears that he has approved of a move to keep him at the club.

The aforementioned report explained that Ten Hag is a “huge fan” of Evans and has given the green light for an extension, with his role in the dressing room believed to be a key factor in the decision.

While it is not a spectacular move, it seems understandable, given the holes in the squad that need addressing this summer.

The United defender also proved last season that he can still compete at the highest level, although his involvement will be expected to lighten dramatically.
