Manchester United issue Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot injury update after substitutions vs Aston Villa

Manchester United have issued the latest on Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot after both players came off before the second half during a 2-0 win against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United closed out the 2024/25 campaign with an impressive 2-0 win over Aston Villa under the sun at Old Trafford.

The Reds started brightly, with Mason Mount twice forcing saves from Emi Martínez in the opening minutes. Rúben Amorim’s side played with energy and intent, creating several early chances but, as has often been the case this season, couldn’t convert them into goals.

The momentum stayed with United, and just before half-time, a rash challenge from Martínez on Rasmus Højlund earned the Villa goalkeeper a straight red card, giving United a numerical advantage heading into the break.

United continued to press after the interval, with Højlund, Bruno Fernandes, and Casemiro all going close. Morgan Rogers briefly thought he had scored for Villa, but his goal was chalked off for a foul on Altay Bayındır.

The breakthrough finally came with 15 minutes to play, as Amad headed in a brilliant Fernandes delivery. In the closing stages, Christian Eriksen converted a penalty in his final appearance at Old Trafford, sealing a deserved victory and a positive end to the season.

Mazraoui and Dalot both cause concern vs Villa

Although United had very little to play for on the day, Amorim still chose to field a strong starting team during the club’s final outing at Old Trafford this season.

United’s entire front five remained the same, with Ayden Heaven, Victor Lindelöf, and Bayındır the only additions to the side that lost the Europa League final last week.

United’s bright start was fantastic to see, albeit somewhat frustrating considering they finally started fast after failing to do so for so much of the season.

Noussair Mazraoui, who has played more fixtures for United than any other player this season, was at right wing-back. However, after 17 minutes, the player pulled up with a hamstring issue and had to be replaced by Diogo Dalot before heading straight down the tunnel for an assessment.

Amorim then chose to take Dalot off before the second half kick-off, with Kobbie Mainoo joining the field in attack and Amad filling in on the right flank.

United issue update on Mazraoui and Dalot

Following the club’s final competitive fixture of the season, United’s squad have flown to Malaysia to take part in two post-season tour fixtures in the coming week, one in Kuala Lumpur and the other in Hong Kong.

The week-long trip is expected to earn United between £8-10 million, although United fans will be more worried about Dalot and Mazraoui’s fitness.

For United fans, the club have confirmed that although Dalot has been included in the squad, his defensive teammate will miss out due to his injury.

The club have confirmed that Mazraoui will undergo further tests in the coming days to determine the severity of his hamstring issue. The full 32-man squad flying to Southeast Asia can be found below.
