Manchester United issue new role for fan-favourite player after Erik ten Hag claim
Manchester United have issued a new role for one fan-favourite player following Erik ten Hag’s claims at the back end of last season.
The Reds ended the 2023/24 campaign on a high note after disappointing performances throughout most of the season.
Amad Diallo’s emergence into the team coincided with those improved displays, although he was unfortunate to miss out on appearing in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
After suffering an injury during pre-season, Amad was unavailable for selection until December and then did not make his first start until United faced Arsenal in May.
He was Erik ten Hag’s best player despite the 1-0 defeat and then started the final two games of the Premier League season against Newcastle United and Brighton.
Amad’s strong end to the season has appeared to have left an impression on the manager and ownership, with the 21-year-old expected to have a more prominent role in the first team going forward.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the club now regard Amad as one of their more integral squad members for the future.
It was explained that United now bracket the Ivorian winger with Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund as youngsters to spearhead their next side.
Following Amad’s impressive display against The Magpies, where he scored and assisted in a 3-2 win, Ten Hag was full of praise for a player who he claims has ‘high potential’.
“It was a brilliant goal by Amad. You see how young players are developing, like Amad, and I was really pleased with his performance, and it was a great goal,” he told journalists.
“He is very good. He has high potential. He is a symbol for the season as he had a bad injury.
“He fought himself back and had to wait long for his chance and, on Sunday, and also tonight, he was very good.”
