Manchester United issue injury update vs Burnley as Rúben Amorim explains ‘hard choice’ he’d had to make (Premier League)

Rúben Amorim has issued the latest on his injury news as Manchester United prepare to face Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester United are back in Premier League action on Saturday afternoon as Rúben Amorim’s men host Scott Parker’s Burnley at Old Trafford.

United have endured a poor start to the season, collecting just one point from their opening two fixtures after losing to Arsenal and drawing with Fulham, leaving them 16th in the table.

The midweek Carabao Cup clash made matters worse, as United fell 2-0 down to Grimsby Town before fighting back, only to suffer a 12-11 defeat in an extraordinary penalty shootout.

With Burnley now visiting Old Trafford, Amorim will hope his side can finally secure their first win of the campaign.

Amorim delivers latest injury news

Last week, Amorim confirmed that Noussair Mazraoui could return to the squad ahead of the tie against Burnley, with the Moroccan international having not featured since a pre-season tie against Leeds United in July.

Speaking to club media on Friday afternoon, Amorim provided an update on his squad’s fitness ahead of the Old Trafford fixture.

When asked how the squad looked ahead of the Burnley tie, he replied, “Really well. I had some choices to make [for the weekend’s side]. It was hard.

“I tried to choose the best starting XI, knowing that, sometimes, it’s not the starting XI that is going to finish or close the game, so everyone is really important.”

United also confirmed that Mazraoui has been “making progress” in his recovery, but did not issue any confirmation on whether he can return in time to face Burnley.

Lisandro Martínez also remains an absentee as he continues to recover from a knee injury. After being rested for the Grimsby game, Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw are expected to return to the squad.

Amorim on very thin ice vs Burnley

United’s start to the season has been anything but smooth, with Amorim still searching for his first win since taking charge.

Over £200 million was invested in four new signings this summer, including marquee additions Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško, who were expected to usher in a new era at Old Trafford.

Instead, the campaign opened with a narrow 1-0 loss to Arsenal, a draw against Fulham, and a humiliating defeat at the hands of Grimsby.

After an exciting and optimistic pre-season, Amorim is now facing mounting pressure, as expectations remain unfulfilled and patience both inside and outside the club begins to fade.

With only the Burnley clash left before the international break—and reports suggesting crunch talks with the hierarchy are planned afterwards—this next fixture could be decisive in determining whether Amorim keeps his job.
