Manchester United insider reveals three reasons why Ruben Amorim has issued Alejandro Garnacho “change”
Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain as we enter the final days of the January transfer window.
Manchester United secured back-to-back victories against Rangers and Fulham last week, which should boost the team’s confidence moving forward.
Head coach Ruben Amorim opted to start Alejandro Garnacho in both matches. The Argentine winger has not been a regular starter under Amorim’s management.
Reports suggest the 20-year-old might depart Old Trafford this month, with Chelsea and Napoli emerging as the leading contenders for his signature.
United have been open to the sale of the player due to the financial benefits it would bring. Garnacho is valued at around £60 million and would represent ‘pure profit’ on the books.
However, while it has previously been stated that the player does not suit Amorim’s system, the United boss has seemingly changed his stance on the situation.
Why Amorim has issued Garnacho change
It has been explained by UtdMenace that Amorim’s position on the Argentine has now changed, with the head coach keen for him to be part of his project.
This has occurred due to the player’s attitude, efforts on the training pitch at Carrington and a willingness to adapt to the new system.
The report does clarify that Garnacho’s head may have been turned by a potential move to either Chelsea or Napoli.
Amorim’s change in stance seemed to be clear after his post-match comments on the weekend, where he praised the 20-year-old despite admitting he didn’t know what his future holds.
“That nobody knows,” he replied when asked by journalists if Garnacho was staying. “Anything can happen.
“But with Garnacho, he’s improving in every department of the game, the way that he recovers, the understanding of the game when he defends.
“I’m trying to find the best position for him – today he played a little bit more open, not so much inside. We need guys with the one-v-one [ability].
“But like I say I don’t know what’s going to happen until the end of the window.”
Amorim makes tactical tweak to suit Garnacho
At least for now, Garnacho isn’t the best player to play inside and pick the ball up in the pockets. The winger always looks more dangerous when he’s wide and able to run at a fullback one-on-one.
That is why many have suggested that he could be sold. In Amorim’s system, the wingbacks are the players to stretch the pitch in attack while the split no.10s operate between the lines inside the pitch.
But as Amorim explained, he made a tactical tweak last time out that saw Noussair Mazraoui play in those pockets which allowed Garnacho to hold the width in the attacking phases.
United still need to improve a lot going forward in the final third but their best chance of success at the moment is getting Garnacho in isolation on the flank, rather than picking up the ball with his back to goal in the middle of the pitch.
Amorim’s system is being talked about every day and his supposed refusal to adjust is also a constant topic of discussion. But it is quite clear that the head coach is prepared to adapt certain parts of the setup to help his players.
