Manchester United insider reveals Ruben Amorim is eyeing surprise deal for “tremendous” Premier League star in 2026

One Manchester United insider has revealed that Ruben Amorim is eyeing a surprise deal for a “tremendous” Premier League star in 2026.

Manchester United made five signings in the summer transfer window, with a total spend of over £200 million on those additions.

Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have completely transformed the attack at Old Trafford, while Senne Lammens comes in as a new goalkeeper. Diego Leon is a young and promising wingback option too.

While these signings are promising for the Reds, the lack of midfield additions has concerned supporters, with the current options not being ideal.

When the 2026 summer window comes around, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes could have also departed. The futures of Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte are not guaranteed either.

Carlos Baleba is United’s priority signing in midfield next year but there will need to be more than one addition in the engine room.

United’s former chief scout Mick Brown has claimed that the Reds are eyeing a deal for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson next year.

“Man United have been looking at Anderson,” he told Football Insider. “He’s done a tremendous job at Nottingham Forest and then he’s come into the England side and turned in a man-of-the-match performance.

“United see him as exactly the type of midfielder they would like to bring in. He gets up and down the park, he’s confident and secure in possession of the ball, and he’s not afraid to put in a tackle which is something they need.

“Anderson would solve, or certainly help with, a lot of the issues they’ve had under Amorim. Everybody knows they wanted a midfielder in the summer but they couldn’t find the right one who was available at the price they wanted.

“I don’t know what Anderson would cost, but he is somebody who’s been on their radar. He would be the ideal player to fill the gaps they’ve had in the squad.”

Anderson would be a great signing

Anderson is not a midfielder who needs to be put into a specific role to shine. He has the abilities to be an old-school box-to-box midfielder, who does a little bit of everything.

That is useful in any squad, and with United’s depth in the engine room potentially getting even slimmer, it would be a no-brainer to look at the England international if the opportunity presents itself.

Nottingham Forest overachieved last term and it remains to be seen how Ange Postecoglou does in that role after the bizarre sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo.

If they struggle, the chance to sign Anderson could come up in the summer and it would be a good move if United attempted to bring him in.

Though, as mentioned previously, it seems like the Reds will need more than one addition in the engine room next year.
