Kobbie Mainoo’s future at Manchester United looks uncertain as Ruben Amorim does not trust him to start Premier League games.
Kobbie Mainoo was left on the bench once again as Manchester United continued their winless run at Old Trafford, settling for a 1-1 draw against West Ham after conceding late.
Despite favourable results elsewhere, United couldn’t take advantage, and Ruben Amorim opted to introduce Manuel Ugarte alongside Casemiro in midfield. The switch offered little improvement, with the Uruguayan failing to influence the game.
Mainoo remained unused and is still yet to start a Premier League match this season. To date, he has featured for only 171 minutes across 14 appearances.
It’s a stark contrast to his breakthrough 2023/24 campaign, when the 20-year-old emerged as one of United’s most impressive performers, scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City. His trajectory continued with an impressive Euro 2024 showing for England.
However, Amorim’s arrival has coincided with a dramatic reduction in his playing time. Despite summer loan interest, the club blocked a move, leaving the highly rated midfielder stuck on the periphery of the squad.
United insider reveals Mainoo’s training reaction to Amorim snub
Mainoo is clearly upset with his current situation at Old Trafford but the youngster is remaining professional behind-the-scenes.
Reliable journalist Andy Mitten has claimed that the midfielder has ‘continued to train well’ despite his lack of opportunities and he is also not considered a ‘bad egg’ in the squad.
Speaking on The Talk Of The Devils podcast, Mitten said, “My interactions with him, he seems like a level-headed lad. I think he’s continued to train well. He wanted to leave, which shows he’s not happy.
“I don’t get the sense of him being a bad egg in the dressing room like I have had with other players in the past.”
United have had many players cause a fuss when they are not playing regularly. Mainoo is remaining professional but simply wants to play consistent football.
Mainoo should start vs Wolves
United play Wolves on Monday evening and it is a game that Mainoo should be starting in the midfield. Casemiro has started and played 90 minutes in the two games within the last week.
Manuel Ugarte has not shown why he should be starting games all season long and doesn’t deserve the chance to play alongside Bruno Fernandes.
Should Amorim decide against starting Mainoo then a January exit on loan looks inevitable, as it is hard to understand where the opportunities will come for the youngster otherwise.
