Michael Carrick has started excellently at Manchester United and there are beginning to be conversations about him taking the role permanently.
Manchester United have found real momentum under Michael Carrick after recording four straight wins against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur.
Those victories have firmly established the Reds in the top-four race, helped by the advantage of a lighter fixture list following their lack of European involvement.
The benefits of the managerial change are increasingly clear. Under the previous setup, there were persistent questions over the squad’s ability to adapt to Ruben Amorim’s tactical demands.
Now, United look more cohesive, with Carrick bringing the best out of a number of the club’s key performers and there are rumours that he could take the job permanently.
United insider reveals current plans for Carrick
Despite recent claims that United are considering offering Carrick the role on a permanent basis, it has been revealed that the club are not planning to do that right now.
Ex-United chief scout Mick Brown is of the belief that any decision would increase the pressure on Carrick and that United are not going to make a decision before the end of the season.
“I’m hearing a lot of talk he could be given the job now,” Brown told Football Insider. “He’s come through these games with aplomb, he’s got this calm air about him and the players clearly like him and enjoy playing under him.
“But that’s not part of Man United’s plans, it’s not something they’re really considering, the idea has always been to wait until the end of the season.
“I think giving him the job immediately takes the edge away from it, it adds more pressure and then before you know it things with start going wrong. They gave him the job until the end of the season, and they’re going to stick with it.
“Then, at the end of the season, he may well get the full-time role if he keeps up the form he has started with, because it would be difficult to argue otherwise.
“He’s put himself in a really good position, but the club don’t want to risk spoiling what he’s done so far and they don’t want to change their plan.
“The decision will be made at the end of the season, whether it’s Carrick or somebody else who comes in, no matter what happens between now and then.”
Carrick still has 13 games
United do not need to be rushed into any decision. They should be considering their options and the different managers who could be in the running to take the permanent role.
Carrick has started brilliantly but there are still 13 games remaining this term and it is sensible to sit and wait to see how he does until the end of the season.

Fans are certainly on the side of the ex-midfielder and he will only gain more support if the wins keep on coming for United in the coming weeks.
If that happens, Carrick will definitely have a solid chance of getting the role permanently but it is too early to say if that will occur and United fans should simply enjoy the ride while the wins are coming.
