Manchester United injury news vs Liverpool amid international break scare and Lisandro Martínez update

Manchester United are hoping to survive a recent injury scare as Rúben Amorim prepares his squad to face Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

With the 2025 October international break over, Manchester United are returning to Premier League action as they travel to face Liverpool at Anfield.

Rúben Amorim’s men sit 10th in the current domestic table with three wins in their first seven games, yet there is a slight sense of optimism heading into the fixture due to the mixed form of Arne Slot’s side.

Despite winning their first five games in the league, Liverpool have lost their last three in all competitions against Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, and Chelsea. The former and latter results were decided deep into added time, while the fixture in Turkey resulted in a 1-0 defeat.

United need points on the board, and after a fantastic 2-0 win against Sunderland two weeks ago, Amorim will be hoping a strong performance and result at Anfield could catapult United into a run of good form.

United receive mixed injury news

The foremost good piece of news to come during the recent international break is that centre-back Lisandro Martínez is finally set to return to team training this week as the Reds prepare to face Liverpool.

However, as explained by the Manchester Evening News, the club are taking no risks with his return to action, meaning he is not likely to be selected for a matchday squad for another few weeks.

At the same time, United were dealt an injury scare when Ayden Heaven had to receive “extensive treatment” while playing for England’s U20s and was substituted at half-time.

However, manager Ben Futcher confirmed after the fixture that he didn’t think the injury was “too serious”. It is now expected that United’s medical staff will assess the 19-year-old upon his return to Carrington.

United emerge from the break unscathed

Bar Heaven’s possible issue, United have escaped past the international break relatively unscathed, with key players surviving without too much of a scratch.

Many of the club’s key figures, such as Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, and Casemiro, along with new signings Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, and Senne Lammens, were part of their respective national team groups and are expected to report back to Carrington in the next two days.

There are a few XI selection decisions that Amorim must make in the coming days. Despite Cunha being a new £62.5 million signing and a Brazilian international, Mason Mount impressed against Sunderland and could start over the Brazilian against Liverpool.

At the same time, Amorim must choose between Lammens and Altay Bayındır in goal, with the former’s commanding debut two weeks ago firmly placing him as a fan-favourite at Old Trafford. There is also the question of who should start in midfield and wing-back.

Amorim is due to give a full update on his squad’s fitness on Friday afternoon, when he conducts his pre-match press conference.
