Manchester United injury news vs Fiorentina, Benjamin Šeško debut verdict as duo could return for Rúben Amorim (pre-season)

Rúben Amorim looks set to benefit from multiple Manchester United returns as they face Fiorentina in their final pre-season fixture.

Manchester United are heading into their final pre-season game of 2025 as Rúben Amorim lines up his Reds to face Fiorentina at Old Trafford.

After two wins and two draws against four Premier League sides, United will host the Serie A club in Manchester as the head coach puts the finishing touches ahead of the 2025/26 English domestic campaign.

The Saturday afternoon fixture will be the first time United’s fans will be able to see the new signings of Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, and Bryan Mbeumo at Old Trafford.

The tie will also mark a return for former Reds goalkeeper David de Gea, who has not set foot in Manchester since his contract expired two summers ago, but remains a favourite among fans.

Duo could return under Amorim

Although many of United’s players have been able to secure minutes across pre-season, a few players have either been limited to one game or are yet to feature due to injury problems.

However, news last week broke that both André Onana and Joshua Zirkzee, neither of whom has featured in pre-season due to injuries sustained prior to flying to the United States, have returned to training.

It has been revealed that Onana has a chance of being fit to start against Fiorentina, while Zirkzee is set to resume training with the squad this week and could return on the bench.

There has been little update on Noussair Mazraoui after the 27-year-old did not appear against any of the three sides in the US, while it is too soon for Lisandro Martínez, who remains on his own bespoke schedule as he recovers from an ACL tear.

Mbeumo only played 45 minutes against Everton on the weekend, but looked good as he continues to gain match fitness, and will likely feature from the start against Fiorentina as Amorim prepares for the opening game of the season against Arsenal on Sunday, 17 August.

Fixture likely too early for Šeško to feature

United are thought to be closing in on an agreement to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško for a package of around £74 million, with the player ready to fly to Manchester to undergo a medical as soon as club-to-club talks are finalised.

However, with the Fiorentina game coming in just a few days, it’s unlikely that Šeško would be able to appear for the Reds at Old Trafford in their new home kit.

If an agreement can be reached within the next 24 hours, Šeško will be able to undergo his medical checks and sign his contract by the end of the week, tying him down to the club until 2030.

He would then be able to join his new teammates at Carrington for his first training session on Monday and make his debut for Amorim’s Reds against Arsenal.
