Manchester United have issued a fresh update on Luke Shaw’s injury status as they prepare to face Manchester City in the Community Shield.

After wrapping up their pre-season tour, Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United squad has returned to the United Kingdom to complete their preparations for the 2024/25 season.

Key players such as Lisandro Martínez, Bruno Fernandes, and Kobbie Mainoo missed pre-season due to their involvement in the 2024 European Championships and Copa America but have now rejoined the team at Carrington after their extended breaks.

As United gear up for the new season, which starts with a home game against Fulham at Old Trafford, they are also preparing to face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday, August 10.

While United and City had differing Premier League campaigns last season, United secured a memorable 2-1 victory over their rivals in the FA Cup final. However, manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that Luke Shaw is among four players who are doubtful for the Wembley clash.

Ahead of the final, United’s squad travelled down to London, and it was revealed that none of Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, or Victor Lindelöf travelled for the tie. However, despite doubts, Harry Maguire did.

Harry Amass, 17, impressed in pre-season and is part of the squad and may well start against City on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martínez, and Kobbie Mainoo have all returned to the matchday squad, with the first two expected to start. Ten Hag hinted that Martínez may be involved too, while Mainoo is expected to start on the bench considering Mason Mount’s pre-season form.

Meanwhile, Rasmus Højlund will be out until mid-September with a hamstring problem, while Leny Yoro has undergone successful surgery on his metatarsal and will be out until the end of October due to his rehabilitation.

After not competing in pre-season, Martínez, Alejandro Garnacho, Dalot, Mainoo, and Fernandes have all trained for almost a week, while new signing Joshua Zirkzee has been building on his fitness since the end of July and may make his debut on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola confirmed on Friday that Kyle Walker, John Stones, Phil Foden, and Rodri would not feature against United.
