One of Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United players has been tipped to become a manager amid the player looking for a new challenge in football.
Manchester United are seeing several Rúben Amorim’s current squad leave this summer, with the Portuguese head coach looking to reshape the squad completely.
The players who departed on loan in January, Antony, Marcus Rashford, and Tyrell Malacia, have all joined Jadon Sancho on the summer transfer list as United hope to raise over £100 million from the quartet.
Other players, such as Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund, are free to leave if the right offer arrives, with United looking to revamp their attacking line with the arrival of Matheus Cunha and the potential signing of Bryan Mbeumo.
Three first-team United players, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelöf, and Christian Eriksen, all depart at the end of the month once their contracts expire.
Evans tipped for future managerial role
While Eriksen and Lindelöf are assessing their options for their next clubs, Evans instead chose to hang up his boots and retire from professional football. Injuries had plagued his final campaign in Red, and he made just three appearances under Amorim.
The 37-year-old will no doubt be taking time off to spend with his family following his retirement, but has been tipped by his former Northern Ireland teammate, Conor Washington, to become a manager in the future.
“Jonny thinks about the game, really kind of horrible to play against, relentlessly calculating things in his head. He’s a good talker. He doesn’t say loads, but when he does, it’s considered,” Washington said, via News Letter.
“And I think he’s got an air of, although his career sort of bought him the respect and things like that, I think lads respect him anyway just because of the character he is.
“So yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Jonny on a touchline, to be honest.”
Evans’ departure signals the end of an era at United
While Evans’ departure from United was not unexpected, it signals the end of an era at the club.
Since United last won the Premier League in the 2012/13 campaign, at least one member of that final Sir Alex Ferguson squad has remained, with Evans being the sole survivor across the last two seasons.

But, with the Irishman departing, the 2025/26 campaign will be the first that does not contain a single member of the 2012/13 title-winning squad.
However, many of the club’s leading players, such as Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, were part of the team that won the 2023/24 FA Cup trophy with Erik ten Hag.
After finishing 15th in the league table last season and not securing any European football next campaign, Amorim’s men now have no excuse to head very strongly into the new season and climb back into the Premier League’s Champions League spots.
