Manchester United have been hit with a £4.3 million transfer problem despite Jadon Sancho’s reported transfer and personal terms agreement with Juventus.
Jadon Sancho is one of five Manchester United players expected to leave the club this summer, after Rúben Amorim decided he’s not part of his plans.
United players are gradually returning to Carrington for pre-season, with Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount already back in training. The rest of the squad are due to report this week.
Sancho, along with Marcus Rashford, Tyrell Malacia, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho, has been told to stay away from first-team sessions as they look to secure moves elsewhere. Rashford, however, has been seen training alone at the training ground.
Sancho hasn’t featured for United since summer 2024, when he joined Chelsea on loan after a falling out with Erik ten Hag. Chelsea had an obligation to buy him for £25 million, but chose instead to pay £5 million to cancel the deal. Juventus are now in negotiations to sign the winger.
United hit with £4.3m Sancho transfer problem
Although it was reported a few days ago that Sancho was not the Serie A side’s No. 1 option on the wing, the story of his transfer is still being heavily pushed by various Italian outlets.
As summarised by Sport Witness, it was reported by Italian outlet Tuttosport earlier this week that all parties involved in the deal were now waiting for the transfer to be finalised.
It is well known that Sancho only wants to sign for Juventus this summer, and that the two clubs had agreed on a fee of £21.5 million plus add-ons for the player’s transfer this summer.
However, as reported by La Stampa, United have come across an issue, as Sancho and his representatives are demanding a minimum £4.3 million severance package amid a “tug of war” continuing between United and the player.
United should pay the severence and move on
Although the club are looking to save funds wherever they can this summer, in this case, it may be worth United simply accepting that a £4.3 million severance payment is simply final penance for handing Sancho such an immense contract in 2021.
Chelsea paid United £5 million to exit their £25 million transfer agreement for the winger, and this can be used to fund the severance package, allowing United to secure the £21.5 million in funding that Juventus are offering.
Continuing to keep Snacho on the books at United while trying to negotiate a lower fee is a moot point, as they would still have to continue paying his wages in the meantime.
If United can get Sancho’s sale over the line quickly, this will allow the club to commit sufficient funds to sign Bryan Mbeumo and will hopefully trigger advancement on other sales, too.
