Manchester United have a secret weapon they could use in a transfer chase for one exciting star during the summer window.
It is no secret that Manchester United are set to undergo a massive overhaul in players this summer following their worst ever season in the Premier League.
After not qualifying for any European competitions, the club are bound to purely domestic fixtures next season, meaning a top six finish in the league is vital.
One of the main reasons for United’s poor season was a severe lack of goals, with the squad ending the season on a minus 10 goal difference.
Therefore, Ruben Amorim has has made it his intention to bring in some great new talent over summer to help United once again climb to the top end of the table.
United have advantage in race for Ekitike
Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike is one of the hottest rising talents in Europe right now, with the Frenchman racking up an impressive 22 goals and 12 assists last season.
These numbers are exactly what United need if they are to return to their former glory next season, and a transfer to the club could well be on the cards as the Red Devils have a number of advantages on other interested parties.
In an interview in December 2024 the Frenchman was quoted as saying: “My favourite club when I was a kid was Manchester United. I’ve always admired them.”
In addition to that, it has also recently been revealed that the Frankfurt sporting director, Markus Krosche, is friends with United’s director of football, Christopher Vivell, after the two worked together at RB Leipzig back in the 2020/21 season.
What does this mean for a potential transfer?
This coincidental relationship, alongside the 22-year-old’s clear love for United, means that a transfer is well within the realms of possibility.
His agent (also brother) is in contact with United’s officials, with Ekitike himself said to be keeping a move to Manchester on the table- despite the club’s lack of European football next season.
While the striker’s price tag will remain a firm €100 million, other interested clubs, such as Chelsea and Liverpool, have their own separate disadvantages to United in the race for his signature.
Liverpool are fresh off the back of their record-breaking €140 million deal for Florian Wirtz, meaning another huge transfer such as this is simply not do-able for them currently.
As well as this, Chelsea are reportedly hesitated to arrange a deal with the player’s camp during the initial transfer window earlier in June, meaning United are in pole position to sign the superstar.
