Manchester United will be working towards a new transfer timeline for Bryan Mbeumo after the first transfer window of the summer shut earlier this week.
Manchester United have kicked off the summer transfer window in impressive fashion, completing the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and submitting an initial bid for Bryan Mbeumo.
In a further boost, club captain Bruno Fernandes has reaffirmed his commitment to Old Trafford, rejecting a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
With Cunha’s arrival confirmed and Fernandes staying put, United have now turned their focus to Mbeumo, who is said to be keen on joining Ruben Amorim’s project.
The Red Devils submitted an opening bid of £45 million plus an additional £10 million in performance-related bonuses for the Cameroon forward, but Brentford quickly turned it down.
Reports indicate that United are now preparing a second offer worth more than £60 million in total, although it has yet to be officially lodged.
United have new Mbeumo transfer timeline
United would have ideally liked to securing the signing of Mbeumo before the initial transfer deadline but negotiations with Brentford remain ongoing.
It has taken United a long time to submit their second offer for the player – with reports stating that they want to ensure they aren’t dragged into making bid after bid.
United are biding their time, partly as they know Mbeumo only wants to move to Old Trafford. Still, ESPN state that the Reds will not be pressured into a deal beyond their valuation and are prepared to be patient.
That report claimed that there is still confidence that a move is finalised at some stage this summer, and that should come before the start of pre-season.
With pre-season preparations at Carrington getting underway at the beginning of July, United technically have just over two weeks left to complete a deal for the 25-year-old within an ideal timeline.
It is also important to note that Brentford, who will have a new manager through the door soon, will also not want to start their own pre-season with an unhappy Mbeumo still in the camp. They will also want a deal to go through before that point.
Will a striker come in before pre-season?
Ideally, the Reds will not need to wait that long to sign Mbeumo so that movements over a striker signing can also be made before pre-season starts.
However, there seems to be a lot of drama around Viktor Gyokeres right now and signing Victor Osimhen doesn’t seem like it would be a walk in the park either.
It wouldn’t be too surprising if United either moved onto different striker signings, or tried to sign a midfielder beforehand. Any negotiations for one of those two centre-forwards seem unlikely to be finished before the trip to the United States.
Many fans had the expectations of at least three summer signings being at Carrington for pre-season but two solid additions being there is still better than we’re used to.
United chiefs do not want to be taken advantage of in the Mbeumo deal but they do know that welcoming him at the start of pre-season is a demand that Amorim will have now.
