Manchester United have received three transfer boosts that leaves the club with little excuse not to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
Manchester United are continuing negotiations over what would be their third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, with a move for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo nearing completion.
Rúben Amorim is keen to further enhance his attacking options after adding Cunha to the squad, though discussions with Brentford over Mbeumo have been prolonged.
An opening bid of £55 million for the 25-year-old was rejected in early June, with a second offer — including the same base fee plus £7.5 million in add-ons — also turned down.
Despite the lack of agreement so far, there is growing optimism that a deal will be reached. Once Mbeumo is through the door at Old Trafford, United are expected to step up player exits and continue their pursuit of a striker and midfielder ahead of the Premier League’s return in mid-August.
United’s pursuit of Mbeumo continues to baffle fans
The mutual interest between United and Mbeumo has been long known – over a month ago, it was revealed that the Cameroon international only had eyes for United.
However, after the two rejected bids, United have been seemingly slow to act on submitting a third, with the club already having missed their deadline of securing the player for the start of pre-season.
Further reports have since stated that the club remain hopeful the 25-year-old will be able to join the club before they fly off to the United States section of their pre-season tour, but the perceived lack of movement has frustrated fans.
This frustrated sentiment is reportedly shared by the player too, with many in the dark over United’s deal for Mbeumo.
Triple transfer boost leaves United with no excuse
United’s initial bids that were lower than Brentford’s reported valuation of £65 million can be somewhat forgiven, as the club is tight on funds, but with multiple transfers happening elsewhere, their excuses are running thin.
United are set to receive around £16.2 million from three sell-on clauses in the coming days, with former Academy graduates Alvaro Carreras, Anthony Elanga, and Maxi Oyedele signing for Real Madrid, Newcastle, and Strasbourg, respectively.
Add the £5 million payment they received from Chelsea after Jadon Sancho’s loan move to London was terminated, and this brings the total to a guaranteed £21.2 million, a significant amount of funding that allows United to meet Brentford at a reasonable compromise and sign them.

They have also been handed a further boost in that Tottenham have seemingly dropped their interest in Yoane Wissa.
It was previously stated that Brentford is refusing to lose both Mbeumo and Wissa in the same window. But, with Spurs signing Mohammed Kudus and Morgan Gibbs-White, the threat of a Wissa move causing transfer issues for United concerning Mbeumo has now significantly subsided.
Mbeumo only has eyes for Old Trafford, and Amorim is very keen to sign the winger. With all their rivals improving around them, the club have little excuse not to do the same.
