Manchester United have been handed two positive injury updates as Erik ten Hag’s Reds prepare to face Sheffield United in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag has been going through a significant injury crisis so far this campaign, with up to 16 Manchester United players suffering from an injury of some degree in the last three months.

It is an issue that has certainly been a factor in the side’s dire start to the season, with the club currently sitting 10th in the Premier League table with 12 points after eight games – eight points off Tottenham, who sit in top spot.

However, with the international break coming to an end and Premier League football returning on the weekend, Ten Hag has been handed three positive injury updates as the domestic season resumes.

First off, Sergio Reguilón is expected to be fit to travel to Bramall Lane on Saturday evening. The latest on the Spaniard is that although he was not quite fit to face Brentford, he was set to recover from his unspecified problem during the international break and resume his place at left-back.

Secondly, Casemiro is back in training for Brazil. Reports during the international games explained that he had suffered a twisted ankle as Brazil drew 1-1 with Venezuela and although there was an initial fear that he may be sidelined, he was pictured training with the squad on Monday, signalling that his injury may not be as bad as initially thought.

Finally, Raphaël Varane is set to return to action for United after missing the Brentford victory due to a “minor injury”. Varane retired from the France international team after the 2022 World Cup in order to prolong his playing time at the top level, and he has now healed his problem over the break and is once again available.

These will be three pieces of welcome news for Erik ten Hag, who will be keen to establish a level of consistency in his XIs as the squad head into a busy schedule.
