Manchester United handed massive Benjamin Šeško assurance after first goal, “sooner or later…”

Manchester United have been handed a massive assurance on Benjamin Šeško’s development after his first goal under Rúben Amorim.

Benjamin Šeško recently netted his first goal for Manchester United after a tough introduction into Premier League football.

The Slovenian international signed for United for an initial £66 million fee from RB Leipzig, and is one of the most highly-rated young strikers in Europe, but still has much to learn.

So far, the 22-year-old has made seven appearances and scored his first goal with a close-range strike against Bournemouth. At the same time, many have been impressed with his overall play despite United’s poor performances under Rúben Amorim this season.

However, with the job of playing as United’s striker one of the most signifiacnt across world football, Šeško still has much to improve across the coming months.

United handed positive Šeško development verdict

Despite his young age, Šeško has already played 43 fixtures for his national side, scoring 16 goals in that process.

Slovenia manager Matjaž Kek was recently asked about the talent, to which he explained that although the striker is playing in a very tough environment, he is convinced Šeško will become a successful striker.

“This is the competitive level that is the most watched, but also the most difficult,” Kek said, as quoted by Nogomet. “The numbers are huge. When the numbers start to turn around with some transfers, when various analyses start, when the ratings increase, it is clear that you are increasingly exposed.

“This is comparable to the exposure of players in the NBA or the exposure of the top 10 tennis players. It is clear that behind a club that has marked the history of world football, but is currently not among the top ten, there is a large mass of fans with a critical view.

“The club is under scrutiny; the public analyses everything good and everything bad. There is much more of the latter at the moment. Only the best are capable of surviving this and proving themselves at this level.

“My personal opinion is, and not only because I am Benjamin Šeško’s coach, that sooner or later he will succeed. If you want to be at this level, you have to be the best. Not only on the field, but you also have to be able to accept everything that happens around you. Along with all the negative criticism.

“He scored a goal in the last match, but what does that matter if the team loses. It is a process that is not easy.“

Šeško has all the tools to become an elite forward

When Šeško joined United, many compared his transfer to the signing of Rasmus Højlund two summers earlier, who left the club in August after failing to perform consistently in front of goal.

It was pointed out that after United failed to provide the Dane with a suitable environment to develop, they sold him and replaced him with another striker in the same age group without giving any extra support.

However, watching Šeško play has given many a window into the raw talent and ability that the Slovenian has. His overall play, including holding the ball up, making the correct runs, and his intelligence off the ball, has shown vast improvement.

While he is yet to put together a goalscoring run, his shot power, dynamism in the air, and strength both in and outside the box are all signs of a player with the tools to become a formidable force in English football.
