Manchester United urged to sign striker who’s ‘better than Erling Haaland’ and stay away from Viktor Gyökeres
Manchester United have been urged to sign a new striker this summer amid a warning surrounding Rúben Amorim favourite Viktor Gyökeres.
Manchester United are focused on strengthening their attack as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle with scoring issues.
United’s inability to consistently find the back of the net has been a glaring weakness this season, with the team rarely managing more than a single goal per game. Their underwhelming performances at Old Trafford have further highlighted the problem.
Speculation surrounding the futures of Joshua Zirkzee, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho has added to the urgency of addressing the team’s attacking shortcomings. As the summer transfer window approaches, reinforcements are becoming a necessity.
Although financial constraints remain a challenge, Amorim is expected to push the club’s hierarchy to invest in fresh talent capable of revitalising United’s front line and overcoming their goal-scoring struggles.
United warned about Gyökeres transfer
One striker who United have been closely linked to is Viktor Gyökeres, who found unprecedented success under Amorim at Sporting.
The Swedish international scored an incredibly 62 goals across the 2024 calendar year, but United have been warned against the signing by former Premier League striker Troy Deeney.
“That shirt’s just a bit heavier than you think,” the former Watford frontman said when asked if Gyökeres would be a good signing for United.
“I think playing for Coventry and even Sporting to a degree doesn’t set you up to be really good for Manchester United.”
United should sign Isak, he’s better than Haaland in some areas
Instead, Deeney has urged United to secure the transfer of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who has been tearing up the Premier League in recent months, having scored 17 goals in 24 games across all competitions this season.

Deeney explained that while Haaland may be a better goalscorer, he feels Isak may be the better overall striker considering his strengths with his back to goal and would drastically improve United’s attack.
“For 90% of teams in world football, if you sign Alexander Isak, your whole team would change,” he said.
“The amount of goals [he scores] and you have to look at what he does. He’s probably better with his back to play than [Erling] Haaland.”
He continued: “[Isak] is better at linking play, he makes very intelligent runs. Haaland is what we used to call a poacher, like a Gary Lineker that used to be on the end of everything.
“Isak is more of a striker. He’s like an advanced forward if you play FIFA. You can do a little bit of everything.
“If I was building a team today, I’m taking Haaland every day of the week because the guy’s hardly ever injured and he plays 50 games a season and he scores like 45 goals.
“His bad season is some people’s best ever season.”
