Manchester United Women beat Manchester City Women 2-1 on Sunday as they will battle it out with Chelsea on the final day of the season.

This was the ninth Manchester Women’s derby to take place with United never beating their city rivals in all competitions ever.

Marc Skinner named an unchanged starting 11 to the team that were beaten by Chelsea in the FA Cup final a week ago.

United opened the scoring inside the first three minutes with Haley Ladd scoring from outside the 18-yard box with her weaker left foot.

17 Minutes later Manchester City had their first big chance from a blocked shot by Khadija Shaw, Chloe Kelly looked to volley in the ball but was denied by the post.

Just before halftime, Manchester City goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck was sent off after fouling Nikita Parris who was in behind the City defence from an Alessia Russo pass.

The Blues nearly scored after halftime from a free kick whipped in by Alex Greenwood which found Kelly who hit the woodwork for the second time in the game.

Leah Galton had a great opportunity to put United ahead by two from a counterattack by Marc Skinner’s side, however, Galton could not fully connect with the ball to put it in the back of the net.

Swedish international Fiippa Angeldahl levelled the scoring in the 68th minute from a cross which ended up in Mary Earps’s net.

In classic Manchester United fashion, the Red Devils scored late on in added time through super sub Lucía García, as Leigh Sports Village went into pandemonium.

That win put keeps United in second place in the Women’s Super League with one game left of the season.

The Reds will have to make sure that they win their next game against Liverpool in order to be in the position to win the title if Chelsea lose against Reading.
