Manchester United could soon secure their third priority signing of the summer as one £25 million transfer has been described as ‘very close’.
After a terrible campaign last time out, Manchester United came into the summer transfer window with a clear desire to improve several areas of the squad.
Goalscoring was a major issue for Ruben Amorim’s side across the season and they are focusing on bolstering the options in the frontline.
Matheus Cunha was signed at the beginning of the window from Wolves and a move is creeping closer to bring Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford as well.
Those two players will slot into the two no.10 roles at Old Trafford but there remains question marks over the striker situation, with Rasmus Højlund potentially leaving and Joshua Zirkzee often looking better when playing deeper last season.
United very close to selling Sancho to make space for striker
Securing a new striker is the third priority signing of the window for United but it is more difficult to do after the additions of Mbeumo and Cunha – two deals which cost more than £120 million.
It is known that United do not have the budget for any more signings and that they cannot properly move for a striker until sales are made. That has been looking like a difficult prospect.
But the latest reports from Italian journalist Marco Giordano states that Jadon Sancho is ‘very close’ to accepting a contract offer from Juventus.
It was added that United have already approved a £25 million offer for Sancho from the Serie A club and a deal could be finished next week.
The cash from that deal and taking Sancho’s huge wages off the books could be exactly what United need to start approaching strikers.
While the transfer fee isn’t huge, Sancho earns around £300,000-a-week at Old Trafford which would make a significant amount of space for moves to be made. Although, there might need to be at least one more exit if United are planning to bring in a striker for big money.
Which striker options will United be considering?
It remains to be seen who United actually move for once the money for a striker comes in, with several players known to be options.
Viktor Gyokeres remains a potential signing but has given priority to Arsenal, and the way his agent has acted in recent weeks is off-putting to many supporters.

Meanwhile, Hugo Ekitike is an interesting prospect, especially after reports suggested he would be available for closer to the £60 million-mark, rather than his £85m release clause.
United might also consider moving for a cheaper option, especially since both Cunha and Mbeumo could operate as the no.9 in certain games, while also providing more quality in behind the lone striker.
