Manchester United fans told about Geovany Quenda’s unexpected attribute, it’s exactly what Ruben Amorim needs
Manchester United are set to try and sign Sporting wonderkid Geovany Quenda in the summer transfer window.
When Ruben Amorim took charge at Manchester United, speculation quickly arose about which players from his talented Sporting squad he might bring with him, with Viktor Gyökeres being the most discussed name.
However, according to a recent report from Portuguese outlet ABola, United have already secured a deal to sign 17-year-old winger Geovany Quenda from the Liga Portugal side this summer.
The report indicates that United’s interest in Quenda predates Amorim’s arrival. While a move couldn’t be finalised during the winter transfer window, the club is now set to complete the signing in the summer.
It is suggested that the deal will cost United around £50 million, though other reports indicate the final price may be slightly lower.
United’s struggles in front of goal have been a major concern this season, and their disappointing home form at Old Trafford has only increased the urgency for attacking reinforcements.
United fans told about Quenda’s unexpected attribute
United fans would have almost certainly seen some of Quenda’s highlights while in Portugal and excited about some of his standout skills.
The teenager is extremely comfortable in possession but also has the ball manipulation and skill to take on his full-back, something that most of United’s wide players are currently missing.
But one concern some would have is whether the 17-year-old would have the maturity to handle life at United and in the Premier League.
It is difficult to assess a player’s character and personality when only watching some highlights but the general rule of thumb suggests that wide players that young have some issues in that regard.
However, Quenda’s youth coach Bernardo Bruschy has suggested that the young winger’s maturity levels are “something out of the ordinary” for someone his age.
Bruschy claims that he would not be surprised if the teenager moved to United and that people often forget that he is still only 17 due to his mature nature.
“Seeing his name being associated with clubs of the biggest size in Europe surprises me just because it is so early, I am not surprised if he gets there,” Bruschy told A Bola.
“Sometimes we forget that Quenda is only 17 years old. His maturity, his quality and the performance he can already give to the team, even though he is so young, are something out of the ordinary.
“And that makes us forget his age, but in fact he is only 17 years old and has a lot to improve and grow, but he is already a player who is at a state of maturity far ahead of what is normal for his age.”
Quenda’s maturity is exactly what Amorim and United need
United are targeting a lot of young talent and that makes it even more important to make sure that they have what it takes to deal with being a United player.
That doesn’t just mean in terms of quality but also mentality on and off the pitch. New signing Patrick Dorgu has claimed that mentality and focus are the “most important” attributes.
Leny Yoro has also reflected well on his most difficult moment against Southampton last month, as well as reacting on the pitch with solid performances.
It appears that despite being a tender age, Quenda has the right attributes to deal with the trials and tribulations of being at Old Trafford.
Despite this, the environment at the club also needs to continue improving. No matter how mentality strong a player is, they need help from the club otherwise old problems will continue.
