Manchester United fans proven right as £25m flop slammed for “disappearing” by club icon
Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho has been slammed by one Chelsea icon for “disappearing” for the Stamford Bridge side.
Jadon Sancho departed Manchester United on loan last summer and joined Chelsea, who will buy him permanently at the end of the season.
The Blues have an obligation to buy Sancho for around £25 million, which is much less than United signed him for back in 2021.
But the Reds needed to get rid of the 24-year-old after his relationship breakdown with Erik ten Hag. During that saga, many United fans questioned the player and were happy to see him depart.
Sancho started his life at Chelsea like a man who wanted to prove people wrong. He was solid in his opening three games, registering an assist in each of them.
However, in the 22 games since then, Sancho has only registered two goals and two assists in all competitions, and his popularity at Stamford Bridge has been impacted.
Chelsea icon slams Sancho for disappearing
Sancho has started to be criticised for his tendency to avoid one-on-one battles with fullbacks and his timid out-of-possession style – both things which United fans got frustrated by.
After his latest outing against Brighton, where the winger’s lapse in concentration led to the Seagull’s third and final goal in the game, Chelsea hero John Obi Mikel criticised the loanee.
In fact, the former midfielder was quite savage in his comments on Sancho, who he believes “deceived” Chelsea fans at the beginning of his loan spell.
“He’s deceived us with a good couple of games, you know we thought oh f***ing hell now we’re getting this Jadon Sancho from Dortmund but he’s gone again,” Mikel said on his podcast this week.
“He’s disappeared off the grid, he takes the ball he doesn’t go past people, anymore he doesn’t create chances anymore you know he doesn’t he doesn’t help the team as much as he should be.”
United fans proven right about Sancho problems
United fans have recently seen several players, including Antony at Real Betis, start their life on loan extremely well. The Brazilian winger has four goal contributions in as many games.
However, it feels like the concerns over Sancho’s game in the Premier League are justified.
The 24-year-old has shown that he can be an extremely useful cog in the right system, which seemed to be the case at Chelsea earlier this season, but you need more from a winger.
Of course, right now, those at Old Trafford have far greater concerns than Sancho at this moment in time, but his exit is unlikely to be one that the club regrets.
Instead, they will be asking themselves how they spent around three years chasing the player and didn’t pick up any of these issues before spending over £70 million.
