Mikel Arteta did himself no favours during his post-match interview after Manchester United knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup.

Manchester United advanced to the next round of the FA Cup after defeating Arsenal on penalties in their third-round clash at the Emirates Stadium.

The Reds took the lead early in the second half when Bruno Fernandes capped off a well-executed move with a stunning finish, but the game turned dramatically when referee Andy Madley sent off Diogo Dalot, and Arsenal capitalised shortly after with an equalizer.

Controversy arose when Madley awarded Arsenal a penalty following a questionable dive by Kai Havertz under minimal contact from Harry Maguire.

United’s Turkish goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir, rose to the occasion, saving the penalty to keep his side in the game.

United battled fiercely for 120 minutes, ultimately prevailing in the shootout. Bayindir made a decisive save against Havertz, while all five United penalty takers found the net to secure victory.

What Arteta said after United knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup

Speaking after the game, despite almost everything going in his team’s favour, Mikel Arteta was stubborn and dismissive about who deserved to win the game.

“Incredible how we don’t win that game,” the Arsenal manager told reporters. “The dominance and superiority in relation to the opposition. We didn’t get what we deserved.

“We deserved to win the game by a mile but we are out.”

Of course, Arsenal dominated the ball like many would with an extra man advantage for over 70 minutes. However, they had no bottle in the big moments during the game.

They were also helped by one of the worst refereeing performances this season from Andy Madley, who looked desperate to help Arsenal win the game.

United fans react to Arteta’s comments

United fans could not quite believe what they were hearing from the Arsenal manager, who is now likely to be moving into his fifth years without a trophy.

“Based on what, the amount he paid the ref?” one fan joked.

Another posted: “You had literally all the decisions go in your favour, you bought the ref, it was a game of two teams – 12 vs 10 and the team with 10 won.. I think it’s fair to say you have rose tinged glasses.”

“No way he actually said that? Yeah, he lost the plot and is losing the team. I think he might be gone after this season if they dont win the CL.. which is, not easy haha,” a third added.

Meanwhile, Amorim showed once again that he can set this team up to compete in these big games, which is something that we haven’t seen enough in recent years.
