Manchester United fans are ‘absolutely buzzing’ about one thing Senne Lammens brings, it speaks volumes

Manchester United fans are ‘absolutely buzzing’ about one thing that Senne Lammens showed during his debut last weekend.

Manchester United wrapped up their latest run of fixtures with an impressive 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford.

First-half strikes from Mason Mount and Benjamin Šeško earned the Reds all three points on Saturday afternoon, lifting spirits around the club to a season high as the Premier League pauses for the October international break.

Equally noteworthy was Senne Lammens’ long-awaited debut. The Belgian goalkeeper, who joined on transfer deadline day last summer, delivered a composed performance; claiming crosses confidently, making several assured saves, and securing a clean sheet.

Although results under Amorim have been challenging so far this campaign, the win against Sunderland has helped restore confidence and positivity within the squad as they recharge during the two-week international break.

There was much to like about Lammens’ debut but it seemed like the standout moment for the fans in the stadium came when he collected a cross into the box late in the game.

MUTV pundit and former centre-back said that the United faithful were ‘absolutely buzzing’ about that and also mentioned how it is something defenders like to see from their goalkeeper.

“As a defender, that’s what you want. You want to see the ‘keeper coming out,” May said on the club’s Matchday Review programme.

“And you could hear the crowd, they were absolutely buzzing that a ‘keeper actually came out for crosses and the saves he made.

“He’ll be absolutely delighted with his debut and the way he played.”

Lammens’ biggest test will come

May commenting that a goalkeeper actually came out for crosses speaks volumes about the situation United have been in recently.

Altay Bayındır and André Onana would often either avoid those moments or attack them and make mistakes. In the Premier League right now, a more calming figure is crucial and Lammens seems to bring that.

The Belgian shot-stopper will undoubtably make mistakes and we need to see how he is able to bounce back from them. That is what ruined Onana’s career at the club. He could have three decent months but an error would ruin his form.

That will be Lammens’ biggest test at the club but it is good to see him getting off to a good start.
