Manchester United prove fan concern wrong with brilliant Matthijs de Ligt move
Manchester United are looking increasingly likely to sign Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer.
It has now been reported by Fabrizio Romano that De Ligt has given the green light for the move and United are keen to make it happen.
The 24-year-old will improve the backline at Old Trafford and could be the long-term partner for Lisandro Martínez in the heart of the defence.
However, there have been concerns over certain aspects of a potential deal. Yet, the latest information has provided a boost for those with a specific worry.
De Ligt’s wage update
According to Christopher Michel, the Dutch centre-back is willing to take a pay cut to join the Old Trafford club.
De Ligt currently earns around £12.7 million per year at the Bundesliga giants, and United are looking to offer him below 10.1 million—around £190,000 per week.
It was explained that De Ligt is still one to the move on these terms and that Bayern are ‘very open’ to selling him to United.
The report concluded that the German club are willing to sell him for a total package of around £42 million, with a potential sell-on clause included.
Worrying problem solved
One of the most worrying concerns surrounding this possible deal was the wages that the defender is currently on at Bayern.
With United looking to improve their financial situation, ensuring they do not get stuck with players on overinflated contracts is a priority.
However, with De Ligt willing to take a significant pay cut and United likely to pay an extremely attractive price, it seems that those concerns will be less apparent within the fanbase if the signing goes through.
