Manchester United Europa League trophy parade decision confirmed with full celebration details revealed

Manchester United will not be holding a trophy parade if Rúben Amorim’s men win the Europa League trophy this month.

Manchester United are gearing up to play their fourth final in three seasons as Rúben Amorim’s men face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League showdown on 21 May.

In the last few seasons, United have participated in three domestic finals, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and FA Cup in 2024, both under Erik ten Hag, while losing the FA Cup final in 2023 against Manchester City.

Despite reaching the Europa League final for the second time in five seasons, United’s campaign has been overshadowed by poor standards and shocking losses. The club currently sit 16th in the Premier League table.

However, winning the Europa League would see the club regain a spot in the Champions League next season and put Amorim in good standing for the summer transfer window.

United make Europa League trophy parade decision

As is often the case when a side wins a trophy, the clubs tend to parade the trophy through the streets of their city.

Earlier this season, Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup win saw them lift their first domestic trophy in around 70 years, with Eddie Howe’s men parading the silverware through the streets of Newcastle.

Despite winning five major trophies since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, United have not paraded a trophy since winning the league in 2013. According to The Times, United will not do so if they clinch the Europa League trophy this time around, either.

The decision has been made amid logistical issues involving United’s post-season tour that will see the squad play in Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong just days after their final Premier League fixture of the season against Aston Villa on 25 May.

What will United do instead of a bus parade?

The report from The Times explains that, instead of an open-top bus parade, United’s players and staff will endure a more low-key celebration.

It is explained that the club have put plans in place for United’s players to enjoy a barbecue at the Carrington Training Complex the day after the game, should they win.

However, if Tottenham secure the trophy, which would be their first since a League Cup win in 2008 and first European trophy since 1984, they will host a parade between the fixture and their final Premier League game of the season, against Brighton & Hove Albion.

With United sitting so low in the league table, Amorim was keen to stress that he does not think winning the Europa League will ‘save’ the horror season the club have endured.

“Everybody knows that it’s really important for our season,” Amorim said late last month. “We know that nothing is going to save our season, but this can be huge.

“Winning a trophy and also to get in the Champions League, to have European games next year, could change a lot of things in our club, even in the summer.”
